            <p><said>Hullo</said>, he called out as he walked up the
            <lb/>drive, and then, as if to himself, <said>To be or not
            <lb/>to be? to walk or not to walk, <del>to talk or
            <lb/>not to talk</del>...oh <emph>hang</emph> it all!</said> His
            <lb/>meditation on <title><persName ref="#hamlet">Hamlet</persName></title> was interrupted as he
            <lb/>collided with a peacock. <said xml:lang="fr">Sacré bleu!</said> he <subst><del>exclaimed</del><add>cried</add></subst>   
            <lb/>with irritation, his <foreign xml:lang="fr">sang-froid</foreign> completely deserting
            <lb/>him. <add place="margin">It was going to be a long week.</add> His catalog of irritations included:
