            <lg type="stanza">
                <l>BEGINNING millenniums back</l>
                <l>We were given of the cup of the Earth to drink:</l>
                <l>A cup of the blood of torment and love:</l>
                <l>A cup set to our emerging and vanishing lips again and again</l>
                <l>through a million years:</l>
                <l>And we have waxed on agony: see has become man.</l>

                <l>But behold! now from the rivers of blood the prophets of peace
                <space/><lb/>lift up,</l>
                <l>Out of the pain rises a running and wingèd joy,</l>
                <l>And out of the lamentation springs a laughter!</l>
