Before coming to the University of New Haven, I did not know much about the lacrosse
team, their competition or their rivalries. After being a member of University of New
Havens women’s lacrosse team for 3 years now I have a pretty good idea. Since being on
the team, we have yet to beat the Adelphi University Panthers. In 2016 when I joined the
team all of the upperclassmen told me about the previous year when they beat the
Panthers for this first time. The passion and excitement the girls had when telling the
story was very inspiring and changed how I look at each game as a player. The girls
describe this day as one of the best of their athletic careers. This game was crazy from
the start. The game commences and comes to a quick stop because of a lightning delay.
Typically, something like this would ruin the momentum of the game, but not this night.
The girls went to the locker room and got even more pumped than they were before. During
this rain delay, they were able to reassess every single game plan they had. They came out
fired up and automatically started to put goals away. Soaking wet and tired the chargers
kept putting goals away. They would not let up. They were winning this game. The crowd,
the players and the coaches knew it. The energy was undeniable.
