                    accurately as possible without reproducing the physical appearance of the
                    manuscript. Craik’s spelling, punctuation, underlining, superscripts,
                    abbrieviations, additions and deletions are retained, except for words which are
                    hyphenated at the end of a line, which we have silently emended. Where Craik
                    uses a non-standard spelling, we have encoded both her spelling and the standard
                    Oxford English Dictionary spelling to faciliate searching. The long s is not
                    encoded.</p>

                        <orgName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#FischbacherandSandoz">Firm Sandoz &amp;
                        Fishbacher</orgName> – <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Neuchatel"
                        >Neuchatel</placeName> &amp; <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Paris"
                        >Paris</placeName> – saying that he wishes to send his son – aged 20 – who
                    has been 18 months in a publishing house at <placeName
                        ref="CraikSiteInde.xml#Leipzig">Leipzig</placeName> to a similar house in
                        <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#London">London</placeName> for 6 months.
                    – I conclude, <hi rend="underline">without payment</hi> on either side – simply
                    to get used to English business – as well as German &amp; French – would your
                    firm like to undertake the young man? – If so, will you kindly write me – a
                    letter I can forward. <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#SandozJules">M.
                        Sandoz</persName> is a good English scholar, though your signature was a
                    little too much for him! –  And will you oblige me by writing at once? – He asks
                    me for an answer without delay – </p>

The enclosed came today. – Also, a letter from M Jules Sandoz – of the Firm Sandoz & Fishbacher – Neuchatel & Paris – saying that he wishes to send his son – aged 20 – who has been 18 months in a publishing house at Leipzig to a similar house in London for 6 months. – I conclude, without payment on either side – simply to get used to English business – as well as German & French – would your firm like to undertake the young man? – If so, will you kindly write me – a letter I can forward. M. Sandoz is a good English scholar, though your signature was a little too much for him! –  And will you oblige me by writing at once? – He asks me for an answer without delay –
