Guizot</persName> has had an offer from <orgName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#TicknorFields">Fields & Osgood—Boston</orgName>, to publish the English translation & exclusively for <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#USA">America</placeName> – but he has not closed with it – as he is rather inclined to have a good English publisher either instead of the American firm, or in conjunction with them. He asks me to speak to <orgName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#SmithElder">Smith Elder</orgName>, or <orgName><unclear reason="illegible" >Harlan</unclear></orgName> – but I thought I would first name the matter to you.
