Dear Mr. Chapman I’ll try to polish the “Head" a little more. – Are you intending to follow suit with the others? If not, have you any objection to re-sell me the 3 copy-rights copyrights for a small “consideration” – seeing how very little benefits you seem to have got by the same. – I know you publishers hold together – still I want to put a question to you as a friend. – You told me Mr. Addey was “safe” – is he so still? – Because I have been writing a story for the Charm – to be paid monthly – or, I told him tri-monthly would do – & he has not paid me since last June though I have made several applications – Finally, hearing the Charm had not appeared this month, I made the last – & get this answer, another “putting-off” – I don’t like it – knowing & having suffered from, the old failure of that house. – It would be a satisfaction to me if you can tell me if all is right. But most certainly if I don’t hear from him on the day he promises, I shall send a little stronger application than my “lady’s” epistles – You see, I have been ill, & not able to work, so that this sum – of between £20 & £30 – is of considerable moment to me. My kind thanks to Mrs. Chapman – but it is months since I have been able to get as far as to Brompton – & may be months more. – I hope all your belongings are well?
