                    being given away – I had rather leave you to arrange with <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#BellGeorge">Mr. Bell</persName> a fair price for the
                    English copyright, leaving the French one open of course to publish after a
                    fixed time – will satisfy <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#DeWittHenriette"
                        >Madame de Witt.</persName> – <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#BellGeorge"
                        >Mr. Bell</persName> had better write to me about it &amp; I will tell
                    her.</p>

                    <rs type="person" ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#CraikDorothy">My little lamb</rs> is
                    the sweetest merriest most loving little soul! always well &amp; always good
                    – Not pretty exactly – though well-formed &amp; graceful – with a delicate skin
                    – small feet, hands &amp; ears. – Bright &amp; clever for her age – apparently
                        <hi rend="underline"><foreign xml:lang="la">mens sana in <choice>
                                <sic>corpus</sic>

                            </choice> sano</foreign></hi><anchor xml:id="n1"/> to the utmost degree.
                    How she came by it all, God only knows! – I never wish to know. I only bless Him
                    every day for giving such a treasure to a childless woman. – </p>
                <p> – Alack, in my busy life to pay visits is nearly impossible. A fortnight’s
                    absence from home is all we have managed this year. If ever it is possible, I
                    will come &amp; see you – &amp; your ten must come &amp; see us when we can. –
                    You must be a fascinating Family by all accounts – Every kind wish to your good
                    self – </p>

Oct October 20th Dear Mrs. Gatty

You should have a photo – utmost pennies! – but we have one that content my husband – & he found them being given away – I had rather leave you to arrange with Mr. Bell a fair price for the English copyright, leaving the French one open of course to publish after a fixed time – will satisfy Madame de Witt. – Mr. Bell had better write to me about it & I will tell her.

My little lamb is the sweetest merriest most loving little soul! always well & always good – Not pretty exactly – though well-formed & graceful – with a delicate skin – small feet, hands & ears. – Bright & clever for her age – apparently mens sana in corpus corpere sano to the utmost degree. How she came by it all, God only knows! – I never wish to know. I only bless Him every day for giving such a treasure to a childless woman. –
