                <p>Forty years ago, <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MudieCharles">Mr
                        Mudie</persName> (of the Library) consulted <rs type="person"
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MulockThomas">my father</rs> about reprinting some
                    poems by "a young man named <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#LowellJamesRussell">Lowell"</persName> — The answer
                    was — "Ask my daughter". I was a girl in my teens, first beginning to write. —
                    The volume appeared — I have it still. Therefore, it is a double pleasure to
                    welcome you to my house, &amp; to feel that you — &amp; perhaps I myself — have
                    a rather good account to render of these forty years.</p>

Forty years ago, Mr Mudie (of the Library) consulted my father about reprinting some poems by "a young man named Lowell" — The answer was — "Ask my daughter". I was a girl in my teens, first beginning to write. — The volume appeared — I have it still. Therefore, it is a double pleasure to welcome you to my house, & to feel that you — & perhaps I myself — have a rather good account to render of these forty years.
