Berlin W. Kurfürstendamm 28 May 24th 1909 My dear little girl

Many thanks for your two dear letters as also for the Check for 150 Marks which all arrived safely.

I would be delighted to have you again under my “pianistical thumb” but I am awfully sorry to say that as my nerves are again playing all sorts of “pranks” with me, we have had to change all our plans for this summer, owing to my health.

Instead of spending the coming months in America as we had intended and to which we all were looking forward to with perfect joy, we will remain in Europe and go to Salzberg Berchtesgaden where we were some years ago, and where my health was greatly benefitted by the beautiful mountain air there. My doctor forbids all teaching, and I must take a long and much needed rest, which I will have to take, much as I hate it.

It is possible —if I can get my courage up?—that I go alone (with only a maid) to America, and I will leave on or about the middle of next October for the United States as my tour begins early in November. We will see whether or no I can stand the separation from all my family. At the present moment, it seems to me an impossibility.

Good-bye for to-day, my dear child. All send love to you and take my dearest love included!

Yours affly Teresa Carreño Tagliapietra
